Pre-: before

Preview

: a special show or performance that allows some people to see a movie, play, etc., before it is shown to the public

e.g. We saw the movie at a special preview.

: a selected group of scenes that are shown to advertise a movie or television show

e.g. After seeing the preview [=trailer], I can't wait to see the movie.

: a description of something that will happen or be available in the future

e.g. They gave a preview of the upcoming football season.

Prepare

 : to make (someone or something) ready for some activity, purpose, use, etc.

e.g. The teacher prepared the students for the test.
: to make yourself ready for something that you will be doing, something that you expect to happen, etc.

e.g .They'll be arriving soon. We don't have much more time to prepare.

: to make or create (something) so that it is ready for use
e.g .She prepared [=made] dinner.
Preposition
: a word or group of words that is used with a noun, pronoun, or noun phrase to show direction, location, or time, or to introduce an object
e.g. The preposition “on” in “The keys are on the table” shows location.

e.g. The preposition “in” in “The movie starts in one hour” shows time.

Contemporary

: happening or beginning now or in recent times

e.g. The story is old, but it has importance to contemporary [=current] audiences.

: existing or happening in the same time period : from the same time period

e.g. The book is based on contemporary accounts of the war. [=accounts of the war that were written when the war was happening]
: a person who lives at the same time or is about the same age as another person
e.g. He was a contemporary of George Washington.

Conclude

: to stop or finish : to come to an end
e.g. The investigation has not yet concluded.
: to end in a particular way or with a particular action

e.g. The meeting concluded at noon.

Context

: the words that are used with a certain word or phrase and that help to explain its meaning

e.g. To really know a word, you must be able to use it in context. [=in a sentence with other words]
: the situation in which something happens : the group of conditions that exist where and when something happens
e.g. We need to look at the event within the larger/broader context of world history.

Ten, tin, tain-: hold

Tenant

: a person, business, group, etc., that pays to use another person's property : someone who rents or leases a house, apartment, etc., from a landlord
e.g. A tenant is now leasing the apartment.

Detention

: the act of keeping someone in a prison or similar place

e.g. The detention of suspected terrorists.

Continent 

: able to control your bladder and bowels
e.g. Most children are continent by age three.
: one of the great divisions of land (such as North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, or Antarctica) of the Earth
e.g. the African continent = the continent of Africa.

Anniversary

: a date that is remembered or celebrated because a special or notable event occurred on that date in a previous year
e.g. the anniversary of the invasion/attack
e.g. We are celebrating our fifth (wedding) anniversary this year. = We are celebrating the fifth anniversary of our wedding this year.
e.g. The exhibit will close on the 100th anniversary of the artist's death.
: — often used before another noun
e.g. an anniversary party/celebration/dinner

Annually

: happening once a year
e.g. The annual meeting is in July.
e.g. It's time for your annual [=yearly] checkup.
e.g. The company's earnings for last year are published in the annual report.
: covering the period of a year
e.g. We had more snow this year than the average annual amount.
e.g. The company charges an annual fee of $45.

Centennial

: the 100th anniversary of something (such as an important event)
e.g. We're celebrating the museum's centennial [=(Brit) centenary] this summer. [=celebrating the fact that it is 100 years old]
e.g. Next year will be the centennial of the town's founding. [=the day/year 100 years after the town was officially begun]

Fin-: end, ended, finished

Final

: happening or coming at the end
e.g. They won their final four games.

: — used to say that something will not be changed or done again
e.g. This is my final offer.

Confine

: to keep (someone or something) within limits : to prevent (someone or something) from going beyond a particular limit, area, etc. — usually + to

: to keep (a person or animal) in a place (such as a prison) — usually used as (be) confined

e.g. Violent criminals are sometimes confined for life.

 : to force or cause (someone) to stay in something (such as a bed or wheelchair) — usually used as (be) confined

e.g. I regularly visit a sick neighbor who is confined at home. 

Finite

: having limits
e.g. a finite number of possibilities
: having a limited nature
e.g. the earth's finite supply of natural resources

: of or relating to a verb form that shows action that takes place at a particular time (such as the past)

e.g. a finite verb such as “is” or “are”

Belli-: war

Rebellion

: an effort by many people to change the government or leader of a country by the use of protest or violence
e.g. The king's army suppressed/quelled/crushed the rebellion.

: open opposition toward a person or group in authorit

e.g. She's the head of a rebellion against the leaders of the party.

Belligerent

: angry and aggressive : feeling or showing readiness to fight
e.g. He was drunk and belligerent.
